Armenian Prisoners' Team Participates in International Online Chess Tournament: What Results Did They Achieve?

The 12th world chess champion Anatoly Karpov hosted the international tournament and online conference of the "Chess for Freedom" program yesterday. Participants included prisoners from four countries: Armenia, Russia, Spain, and the USA.

Five prisoners from Armenia participated in the online tournament, selected based on the results of a chess championship held at the "Armavir" correctional facility. Grandmaster Gevorg Harutyunyan worked with the prisoners.

The Armenian prisoners' team secured third place in the international online chess tournament.

The winning team was the Russian delegation.

The "Chess for Freedom" program initiated by FIDE aims to implement chess as a tool for education and social programs in correctional facilities across various countries.
