National Assembly Adopts Electoral Code Amendments in First Reading
The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia has adopted in the first reading a package of bills aimed at amending and supplementing the constitutional law on the "Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia." The package was approved unanimously with 82 votes in favor and 1 abstention.
The legislative package includes provisions to legally establish the conduct of pre-election debates on public television, expand the list of expenses allowed from funds, and significantly reduce the potential for an increase in the number of parliamentary deputies.
Additionally, the draft law proposes to lower the electoral threshold for parties from 5% to 4%, while increasing it for alliances. For alliances consisting of up to 3 parties, the threshold will be set at 8%, and for alliances with 4 or more parties, it will be set at 10%.
