Parliament Member Mkhitar Hayrapetyan Starts Campaign for Minister of Education Position

The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports: "In recent days, MP Mkhitar Hayrapetyan from the 'My Step' faction of the National Assembly has started a more active campaign for the position of Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia.

According to the information from the newspaper, conspiracies are also being devised against the acting minister Vahram Dumanyan within the government, so that the Prime Minister’s acting Nikol Pashinyan can dismiss him, and Hayrapetyan can be appointed to the ministerial position.

According to these details, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan and Chief of Staff of the Government Arsen Torosyan are undermining Dumanyan’s position. They are consistently denigrating Dumanyan on every occasion, claiming that he has failed the ministry’s work so that he can be removed from office.

Yesterday, the government made a decision to amend the statutes of higher education institutions without the agreement and discussion with the universities and rectors. The rectors issued a stern statement, but this did not prevent the government from interfering in the autonomy of the universities.

This intervention was made in order to appoint Vahram Dumanyan as the rector of Yerevan State University, while Mkhitar Hayrapetyan is to be appointed as minister, fulfilling his long-awaited dream. When asked if he was going to the executive body, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan stated, "No comment"."
