Are boundary demarcation works being done, and why are the maps not being published? The Foreign Minister responds to the MP's question
During a Q&A session with government members in the National Assembly, Anna Costanyan, a member of the 'Enlightened Armenia' party, asked Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan why the maps used for the boundary demarcation with Azerbaijan are not being published.
"The question has been raised several times in the National Assembly, yet it has been delicately bypassed by both ruling and opposition MPs, with diplomatic answers provided. The issue relates to the mapping, the demarcation, and Azerbaijani encroachments on the Armenian borders, which raises concerns among our citizens, especially for those living in border regions. If even one square meter of internationally recognized territory of Armenia has been temporarily ceded to the enemy, this is a criminal act. Are boundary demarcation works being done, and what maps are being used? Please publish these maps," she emphasized.
In response to Anna Costanyan's question, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Ara Aivazyan stated that the ministry had issued a relevant statement which has been posted on the ministry's website. "The demarcation and boundary delimitation process is quite a lengthy process and will occur when diplomatic relations are established between Armenia and the respective country. Joint commissions for delimitation and demarcation will be created, which will develop and agree upon their approaches regarding the methodology, based on which the demarcation process will begin. The remaining changes occurring are outside of the demarcation and delimitation processes," he noted.
Anna Costanyan responded to Ara Aivazyan, stating that once again her question received a diplomatic response and if that information has been disseminated on the website, it means that the public has not been adequately informed, as the question remains unresolved.
