Report of April War Inquiry Commission to be Discussed Behind Closed Doors in Parliament
The report of the National Assembly's inquiry commission investigating the circumstances of the April War will be discussed behind closed doors in Parliament. This decision was made today by the National Assembly with 71 votes in favor and 1 abstention.
Member of the 'Bright Armenia' faction, Taron Simonian, reminded that the issue holds public significance, while discussing it in a closed session does not align with the open procedure required for matters of public importance.
National Assembly President Ararat Mirzoyan stated that the reason for such a decision is that the report created as a result of the commission's work contains numerous state secrets. 'Yes, the issue is of public importance; otherwise, it wouldn't have become the subject of an inquiry commission's investigation. However, various state agencies have recorded that the package compiled as a result of the work contains many state secrets,' he said, adding that the public has the right to access these documents through their representatives, the MPs.
It is worth reminding that during the sessions of the inquiry commission investigating the circumstances of the April 2016 war, former President Serzh Sargsyan, former Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, and a number of other high-ranking officials were invited and participated.
