I Have a ‘Wonderful’ Piece of News: Daniel Ioannisyan
Daniel Ioannisyan, founder of the Investigative Committee of Civil Society (IKM NGO) and member of the Public Council, wrote on his Facebook page: "I have a ‘wonderful’ piece of news. The June 20 elections will be held under the old electoral code. Besides the proportional representation system, no other amendments will be made for the upcoming elections.
Yes, the 'My Step' faction and the National Assembly’s Permanent Committee on Legal Affairs continue to amaze with their unique ability to sabotage even prepared reforms. These are people who, for over two years, despite having an unprecedented majority in the National Assembly, were unable (and some did not want) to reform the electoral code.
Perhaps I do not need to remind you of all of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's promises to reform the electoral code, starting from April 2018, in the government program, and concluding with the roadmap of November 18, 2020.
And the only reason for this failure is 'My Step.' It is not the President of the Republic, nor the courts, nor the previous administrations, nor Azerbaijan, nor the opposition.
I clarify that the National Assembly's Committee on Legal Affairs decided today to postpone the discussion of the electoral code, which means the Assembly will not adopt it before the elections are scheduled. And naturally, after the scheduling, the rules will not change.
PS: In general, no one in this country hinders the development (or non-retreat) of democracy as much as the National Assembly’s Committee on Legal Affairs (and, of course, its ‘spiritual father’ Ararat Mirzoyan)."
