Parliamentary Committee Postpones Discussion on Electoral Code Amendments

The Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly has postponed the discussion on the draft law proposing amendments and additions to the constitutional law "Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia" at the request of the author.

The author of the draft, Hamazasp Danielyan, stated that the reason for the postponement is the intensive agenda of the Parliament session starting tomorrow, while according to him, the amendments to the Electoral Code require separate discussion. He also mentioned that there is a need for time to address and discuss the opinions included in the conclusion of the Venice Commission.

He noted that the draft will be discussed at the beginning of next week through an expedited procedure and is likely to be adopted in two readings.

The committee chairman Vladimir Vardanian acknowledged that the discussion is being postponed to consolidate the technical solutions within the draft and to implement the proposals collectively. An extraordinary session will be initiated next week to propose discussion of the draft.
