Naira Zohrabyan on the Participation of the Prosperous Armenia Party in Today's National Assembly Session

According to information circulating in the media, the Prosperous Armenia Party will not participate in the discussion of the prime minister's election in the National Assembly today. To clarify this information, Auroranews contacted National Assembly member Naira Zohrabyan from the Prosperous Armenia Party. She stated, “There is a political agreement regarding whether or not to nominate a candidate for prime minister; therefore, we have decided to not participate in the session as individual lawmakers.”

It is worth reminding that on April 25, Nikol Pashinyan submitted his resignation as prime minister ahead of the extraordinary elections set for June 20. According to the Constitution, in the event of a prime minister's resignation or other occurrences that leave the prime minister's position vacant, the parliamentary factions have the right to propose candidates for prime minister within seven days after the government’s resignation is accepted. The National Assembly elects a prime minister by a majority of votes from all members of parliament.

If a prime minister is not elected, a new election for prime minister is held seven days after the vote, and candidates proposed by at least one-third of the total number of lawmakers have the right to participate. If no prime minister is elected by a majority of votes from the total number of lawmakers, the National Assembly is dissolved by law.
