Armed Attack on Gold Store Results in Theft of 21 Million Drams in Jewelry

The investigation by the Lori regional investigation department of the RA Investigative Committee has concluded regarding the armed robbery incidents at jewelry stores in the city of Alaverdi. This was reported by the RA Investigative Committee.

According to the data obtained during the investigation, two residents of Alaverdi, after reaching a preliminary agreement to steal gold jewelry from a store located on Tumanyan Street in the same city, went to the vicinity of the mentioned store together by car on August 1, 2020, around 08:00, and hid under the stairs near the store, waiting for the saleswoman to arrive.

At around 09:00, when the saleswoman deactivated the store's alarm system, the young men illegally entered the jewelry store, attacked her, bound her mouth and hands, and then, using a knife and threats with a firearm, demanded and took the keys to the fireproof safe. Unable to open all the locks of the safe's doors, one of the young men fired a shot into the store’s floor. They then tried again to open the locks and, failing to steal the gold jewelry worth about 10,000,000 drams located inside, fled the scene.

Days later, the aforementioned young men committed another armed robbery in the same manner. On August 10, 2020, around 11:40, they illegally entered another store, where one of the young men attacked the store owner, covered his mouth and eyes with his hands, and then tightly squeezed his neck, causing asphyxiation. Meanwhile, the other young man took various types of gold jewelry from the store's display cases, valued at approximately 21,808,900 drams, and they both fled.

Based on the gathered sufficient evidence, charges have been brought against the two young men for Article 175 (Robbery) of the RA Criminal Code, part 3, point 1 (2 episodes). They have been detained as a preventive measure. The investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion.
