Opel Crashes into Concrete Barrier in Gegharkunik, Ends Up in Ravine with One Dead and One Injured

A major and tragic car accident occurred in Gegharkunik province today, April 29. At around 07:10, an Opel vehicle veered into the opposing lane on the Yerevan-Martuni-Getap highway, approximately 15 km from the city, in front of the St. Narek chapel, for unknown reasons. The vehicle struck the concrete barrier, broke it, continued forward, crashed into a concrete support column, toppled it, and ended up in a ravine, crashing into the rocks.

According to Shamshyan.com, as a result of the accident, one individual died on the spot, while another was provided with first aid initially at the scene by the doctors from the 'Gavar' Medical Center who responded promptly and later transported to the same facility.

The first to assist the injured party were citizens and the firefighters from the Emergency Situations Ministry's Gavar rescue team, who brought the deceased's body closer to the ambulance.

A criminal case has been initiated under Part 2 of Article 22 of the Armenian Criminal Code regarding the incident. Under the investigator’s instructions, the vehicle has been moved to a designated area preserved by the Gavar police department. The police and investigative division are working to ascertain the identities of the driver, the deceased, and the injured.

According to sources, the deceased was a police officer.
