Biden Proposes Meeting Erdogan at NATO Summit in June

US President Joe Biden is expecting to meet personally with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the NATO summit scheduled for June. This was announced by a representative of the Washington administration in light of Biden's recognition of the Armenian Genocide that took place in the early 20th century in the Ottoman Empire, according to TASS.

The administration's spokesperson noted that Biden and Erdogan had a phone conversation the day before, during which Biden informed the Turkish president of his intention to recognize the Armenian Genocide. Additionally, they discussed bilateral relations, which have sharply deteriorated over the past two years.

According to the source, Biden aims to collaborate with his Turkish counterpart to address all problematic issues. In this regard, he proposed to take the opportunity to meet in person during the NATO summit in June.

The spokesperson emphasized that Washington considers Ankara an important ally in NATO, and Biden's announcement is meant to honor the memory of the victims rather than to assign blame to anyone.
