Russian Senator on Turkey's Future Actions After Biden's Recognition of Armenian Genocide
Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov has evaluated Ankara's response to U.S. President Joe Biden's recognition of the Armenian Genocide. This was reported by the RIA Novosti news agency.
According to the Federal Council member, many of Turkey's allies in NATO have long recognized the fact of the Genocide, while in some European countries its denial is criminalized. For instance, French President Emmanuel Macron previously declared April 24 as the National Day of Remembrance for the Armenian Genocide. In response, Ankara has only carried out diplomatic demarches, Pushkov recalled.
“Relations with France, Germany, and other countries have slightly deteriorated, but they have been maintained. Turkey has not left NATO and will not do so. Likely, the same will happen in response to Biden's decision regarding Erdogan: a big storm in a teacup. At the same time, Biden's move will not contribute to improving U.S.-Turkey relations,” the senator wrote on his Telegram channel.
