Onik Gasparyan's Statement: He Has Addressed the President of the National Assembly and Leaders of the Factions

General-Lieutenant Onik Gasparyan has conveyed an exclusive request-statement to ArmLur.am. He stated: "To the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Ararat Mirzoyan, to the President of the National Assembly's Defense and Security Standing Committee, Mr. Andranik Kocharyan, to the Leader of the 'My Step' faction in the National Assembly, Ms. Lilit Makunts, to the Leader of the 'Prosperous Armenia' faction in the National Assembly, Mr. Gagik Tsarukyan, and to the Leader of the 'Enlightened Armenia' faction in the National Assembly, Mr. Edmon Marukyan,

More than five months have passed since the cessation of war unleashed by the Azerbaijani-Turkish coalition against the Republic of Artsakh on September 27, 2020. During this entire period, numerous questions have accumulated among various segments of our society regarding the events that occurred before, during, and after the war, as well as the various decisions and actions taken by the armed forces and state governance bodies of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh.

Public media outlets have been flooded with various information, evaluations, revelations, and conspiracy theories. Recently, additional information has been partially declassified and made public by certain state bodies (particularly the selective excerpts from the minutes of the Security Council meetings published by the Secretary of the Security Council on April 15 of this year, which do not fully reflect the content of the reports, thus intentionally distorting the reality, a manifestation of extremely poor behavior by the current government of Armenia).

All this has become a real threat to our national security, undermines our public solidarity, demoralizes our armed forces, and, as a result, makes our state vulnerable to potential future aggressions by the enemy.

Throughout this period, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia has exhibited maximum restraint on this issue, avoiding any public disclosure of information regarding the war and state secrets. However, the recent surge in manipulations, irresponsible statements from certain state and political leaders, and leaks of confidential information necessitate legal regulation of the state examination process concerning all circumstances related to the past war, ensuring maximum impartiality, systematization, and professional depth.

For this reason, I am addressing you to urgently initiate the establishment of a parliamentary inquiry commission regarding the circumstances of the 44-day war within the framework of the powers vested in you by Article 108, Clause 4 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia. I am convinced that the work of such a commission will allow us to uncover the fundamental circumstances related to the past war, draw important lessons for more effective preparation for potential future military operations, and also defuse the heated public atmosphere. I express my readiness to provide maximum support for the work of the future inquiry commission."

It should be noted that Onik Gasparyan has also sent this request to the National Assembly.
