Recognition of Genocide Holds Universal Significance Regardless of Armenian-Turkish Relations, Avinyan
U.S. President Joe Biden's use of the term genocide in his April 24 message is of foundational importance for the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide. This was stated by Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan on his Facebook page.
He particularly noted, “It is essential to highly appreciate the personal efforts of the U.S. president and the actions of his administration for naming things by their rightful names and for the enormous and undeniable contribution to the international recognition of that universal catastrophe.”
“I am also confident that sooner or later, Turkey will recognize the fact of the Armenian Genocide. Therefore, regardless of the developments in Armenian-Turkish relations, the issue of genocide and its international recognition holds universal significance, and the conversation about it should not cease,” he continued. “I believe that each state, by undertaking a commitment, should do everything possible to ensure that such disasters do not recur.”
