Navalny Announces End of Hunger Strike
Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny has announced the cessation of his hunger strike. This was reported by the Interfax news agency.
"I am not retracting my demand to provide me with a necessary doctor. I am losing sensitivity in parts of my hands and feet, and I want to understand what it is and how to treat it, but considering the progress and all circumstances, I am beginning to exit the hunger strike. According to the rules, this will also last 24 days, and they say it is even more difficult. So, wish me luck," Navalny wrote on Instagram.
Navalny stated that he has already undergone examinations by a council of civilian doctors twice. "The last time was immediately before the rally. They conduct examinations and analyses and give me the results and conclusions," said the opposition figure.
He reminded that his doctors issued a statement the day before calling for the hunger strike to end. "To be honest, their words... I think are worthy of attention," he added.
On March 31, Navalny's supporters reported on social media that he had declared a hunger strike demanding to allow a doctor to visit him and provide him with medications. According to his lawyers, the health condition of the opposition figure has significantly worsened.
