Baku Declares It Will Strongly Condemn the U.S. If It Recognizes the Armenian Genocide
Baku hopes that the U.S. will not recognize the events of 1915 as the Armenian Genocide; otherwise, the Azerbaijani side will strongly condemn such a move. Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, made this statement, according to RIA Novosti.
Armenia and Azerbaijan are working on a transportation corridor project, stated Cavushoglu. In particular, he said: “It is well known what Azerbaijan's clear and unequivocal position is regarding the so-called genocide of Armenians. If the new U.S. administration takes such a step, it will be a historical mistake. Azerbaijan has always opposed attempts to recognize the so-called Armenian genocide; it is a distortion of history. History should be studied by historians. If the U.S. recognizes it, Azerbaijan will strongly condemn it. President Ilham Aliyev has repeatedly stated that any action against Turkey is an action against Azerbaijan, and any action against Azerbaijan is an action against Turkey. I would like to hope that the U.S. administration will not make a historical mistake,” Hajiyev said in a conversation with journalists.
