Australian Prime Minister Fails to Use 'Genocide' Term in Statement; Armenian Community Plans Protests
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, in his statement commemorating the 106th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, has once again avoided properly labeling the historical events. Although he declared in 2011, as a member of parliament, that Australia 'should recognize the Armenian Genocide,' this year he has refused to use the term 'genocide' in his statement.
According to the Armenian National Committee of Australia, due to the Prime Minister's actions, the Armenian, Assyrian, and Greek communities residing in Australia have decided to organize 'Justice Marches' in Sydney and Melbourne on April 24. The participants of the protests will call on the Prime Minister to speak the truth.
'It is unacceptable for our communities that the Prime Minister refuses to call genocide by its name,' stated Haik Kayserian, head of the Armenian Assembly of Australia.
