This is a Clear Political Persecution Involving the Investigative Committee: Defense of Meghri Mayor

The discussion regarding the legality of the arrest has been assigned to Judge Shahverdyan, wrote Gayané Papoyan, the lawyer of Meghri Mayor Mkhitar Zakaryan, on her Facebook page.

"I was called shortly before from the panel and informed that the discussion of the complaint will take place tomorrow at 18:30, as it is not convenient for the investigator until then. The investigator has informed the court that they are overloaded with work. I told the court staff that the court is obliged to discuss this complaint as a priority, leaving the issue of the investigator's absence for the court to address and decide during the hearing. However, the panel responded that the court is also on duty and currently has other cases to attend to. It's interesting to what extremely important cases they refer, when it concerns an urgent complaint regarding an individual's freedom.

As for the investigator's position, I would like to remind that a investigative group has been formed for this case, which includes dozens of investigators. This is a clear political persecution, in which the Investigative Committee of Armenia has also become involved. We demand that the Court fulfill its obligations and not succumb to provocations, not to get entangled in this issue," stated the lawyer.
