Protest Participants Refuse Offer to Enter with a Few Individuals: Gor Abrahamyan
Participants and initiators of a protest in front of the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia rejected the offer to allow a few individuals to enter in order to receive answers to their pressing questions. Instead, they demanded through speeches some unspecified "approaches" regarding actions taken in the context of a criminal case, wrote Gor Abrahamyan, the advisor to the Prosecutor General, on his Facebook page.
"It is probably unnecessary to remind that one of the primary constitutional functions of the Prosecutor's Office is to oversee the legality of criminal proceedings through checking the legality of actions carried out within those proceedings and providing appropriate assessments. There can be no approach other than a legal one, which can and must be formed only and exclusively as a result of the implementation of the aforementioned constitutional function of the Prosecutor's Office," Abrahamyan stated.
"In the specific situation, law enforcement bodies are carrying out actions within the framework of a criminal case, the legality and legitimacy of which will also be verified through criminal procedural measures, and legal assessments will be provided based on the factual data obtained during the case, including, naturally, any illegal manifestations, should they be substantiated. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that announcements have already been made by certain entities regarding the submission of applications or complaints to the Prosecutor's Office regarding these actions, and naturally, if submitted, they will also be discussed, and appropriate responses will be provided or relevant procedural decisions will be made. We call on our compatriots to maintain calm, reasonableness, and mutual respect, to avoid unnecessary provocations, illegal actions, and undesirable consequences. I wish a speedy recovery to the police officer who was taken to the hospital due to health issues while performing his official duties," Abrahamyan wrote.
