Goris Deputy Mayor Suffers Injuries in Investigative Committee Custody: Lawyer Files Report

The Deputy Mayor of Goris, Menua Hovsepyan, is currently in the Investigative Committee. This was stated in an interview with NEWS.am by the other deputy mayor, Irina Yolyan.

"The lawyer defending Menua Hovsepyan, David Karapetyan, has lodged a report with the Special Investigative Service, indicating that Hovsepyan was illegally detained by the RA Investigative Committee today, where he allegedly sustained injuries under the directive of one of the leading staff members. The Office of the Human Rights Defender has also been informed about the matter. Photographs have also been sent," said Irina Yolyan.

It was previously reported that on April 22, shortly after midnight, police detained Menua Hovsepyan. Irina Yolyan stated in a conversation with NEWS.am that they had no information on which direction he was taken. Even his lawyers were not aware of this.

Menua Hovsepyan had participated in protests against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan the day before, alongside other residents. It is worth noting that since yesterday, police have also detained the mayor of the enlarged Meghri community, Mkhitar Zakaryan, and the former mayor of Shurnukh, Ararat Aghabekyan. Mkhitar Zakaryan has been arrested.
