Increase in Mortality Rate Registered in Armenia Due to Coronavirus

The situation regarding coronavirus remains tense in Armenia. This was noted by Romella Abovyan, head of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.

“On average, 800-1000 new cases are recorded daily in the republic, which is a serious indicator for our country and burdens the healthcare system. Unfortunately, we have already seen an increase in the mortality rate, which is very concerning,” said Romella Abovyan.

Addressing the events commemorating the Armenian Genocide on April 24, Romella Abovyan emphasized that the main advice remains the same: to heighten vigilance and especially adhere to all coronavirus-related regulations in enclosed spaces. The specialist urges the public to avoid gatherings and wear masks in both open and closed spaces, and to maintain social distancing as much as possible.

“Due to interpersonal contact, the risk of disease spread increases, and we could see a significant rise in cases. The challenge becomes placing patients in hospitals, as the hospital bed capacity is nearly exhausted,” stated Romella Abovyan.

Arayik Harutyunyan, chief advisor to the Prime Minister of Armenia, mentioned that there are no restrictions on visiting the Tsitsernakaberd memorial complex honoring the victims of the Armenian Genocide on April 24, but he urges the public to wear masks appropriately and maintain social distancing as much as possible.
