Age Threshold for Contracted Military Service to Increase by an Average of 5 Years as Parliament Fully Approves LHK Proposal

The Parliament has fully adopted the draft amendments to the law on "Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel," authored by the "Enlightened Armenia" faction, during its second reading. The vote recorded 103 in favor and 2 abstentions.

The necessity for the adoption of the draft is justified by the fact that soldiers who reach the age limit are dismissed from service, while there are many cases where individuals wish to continue serving. The proposal is to raise the age for entering into contracted military service in the armed forces and other troops.

During the period between the first and second readings, the Government suggested making changes to military ranks and establishing different age limits for reservists who can be recruited into the armed forces. The corresponding age threshold has, on average, been raised by 5 years.

Thus, the proposed age limits for contracted military service are as follows: 50 years for private, junior, and senior non-commissioned officers; 48-52 years for junior officers; 50-55 years for senior officers; 55-58 years for colonels; and 63 years for higher ranks.
