What Makes Coronavirus Mutations Dangerous: Explanation from the World Health Organization
Melita Vujnovic, a representative of the World Health Organization in Russia, explained in an interview with "Rossiskaya Gazeta" what makes the new mutations of the coronavirus dangerous.
According to her, recently discovered strains may transmit more rapidly, and she emphasized that the risk of reinfection and the number of carriers of the virus remains in every country. Therefore, it is crucial to control the situation using strict public health measures.
She noted that data on new strains is constantly being updated, which means it is necessary to timely revise the measures taken in the fight against COVID-19.
Furthermore, Vujnovic pointed out that it is not appropriate to propose double vaccinations, as the coronavirus is still not sufficiently studied.
It should be noted that new strains emerging in South Africa and Great Britain have raised some concerns regarding the effectiveness of vaccines against COVID-19.
