Karin Tonoyan: "There Are Fewer People Interested in the Situation in Syunik or Resettling Azerbaijanis in Ivanyan Than in a Lavish Wedding"
Karin Tonoyan, the mother of Artsakh hero Menua Hovhannisyan and the host of the "Armenian Knight" project, wrote on her Facebook page:
“I open my FB page and see only various discussions about some kind of wedding... I read it and feel even sadder that at this fateful moment for our country, there are fewer people interested in the situation in Syunik or in the news about resettling Azerbaijanis in Ivanyan, formerly Khodjalu, than in a lavish wedding... Honestly, I’m not surprised at all. What else were you expecting? I would be pleasantly surprised if it were the opposite... It is painful when, after so much suffering, we are only interested in individuals, not phenomena... That’s why we have lived only by individuals for 30 years and did not see how the country is collapsing.
When our state television, which lives off the taxes we pay, imports tashitush to our mourning home every day, you even fear to turn on the television just to be aware of fake news... and as a nation, you don’t scream that it shouldn’t be like this... Why are you surprised or angry at the luxury contempt and disrespect of one individual? Every person raises or lowers themselves with their actions... Our grief neither increases nor decreases from that... The problem is somewhere else—we are losing our Homeland, and against this backdrop, such a lavish attitude is truly intolerable... But who should allow or not allow it when the country has no MASTER... To those who consider themselves MASTERS, I invite you to take action... Spring is passing, and we are not able to plant our BOYS' trees,” she wrote.
