The Situation in Ukraine is Dangerous for Russia, Dmitry Peskov
Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia, has described the situation in eastern Ukraine as dangerous, stating that a civil war could resume there in the near future.
“We have a country next to us where we do not rule out that the leadership may again consider solving internal issues through forceful methods. Is this dangerous for us? Of course, it is dangerous. We must take measures to ensure our security. We must. This is what we are doing,” said the Kremlin representative in an interview with Pavel Zarubin on the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin.”
Peskov refuted claims that German Chancellor Angela Merkel had demanded during a conversation with Vladimir Putin to halt the buildup of Russian military forces in eastern Ukraine. “Merkel did indeed say that we in Europe are concerned about the concentration of Russian troops near the borders. … This was followed by appropriate clarifications from the state leader,” Peskov clarified.
He emphasized that the movements of troops within the country are Russia's personal business that should not cause concern to anyone.
