No Azerbaijanis in Meghri; If There Were, We Would See Them: Mayor of Meghri on Spread Rumors
Currently, there are no specialists in Meghri, and no measurements are being taken at the moment. This was stated by the Mayor of Meghri, Mkhitar Zakaryan, in an interview with News.am, responding to reports in the media about specialists coming with General Muradov to conduct measurements related to the road provided to Zangezur.
"There is a 99% probability that such a thing does not exist; if it did, we would see it. If there is a question of opening communications, it would be good for all procedures to be followed as we move forward. But such secret and unclear processes raise concerns; the non-public nature of the process creates anxiety," he said.
According to Zakaryan, the issue of Meghri is a matter of Armenia's independence and existence. "If the discussion pertains to the opening of communications to connect Nakhichevan and Azerbaijan, utilizing Armenia's transit potential, that can be discussed with specialists. But if there needs to be a discussion without complying with our state procedures, any movement would be, in my opinion, a loss of our independence. If that is the case, why don’t we allow Iran to transit through our territory to go to Georgia, and so on? No matter what we discuss now, we are still speaking hypothetically, as nothing concrete has emerged yet," he remarked.
