No Agreements Have Been Made, We Just Hoped Our Prisoners Would Return by Plane: Alen Simonyan
We had hoped that yesterday, as we do every day, our prisoners would return by plane, but I must emphasize that no statement has been made by any senior official regarding this. This was stated by the Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, in an interview with Azatutyun.
“There have been no agreements; we simply had hope, as we do every day, that this flight would bring good news. This whole situation has caused significant reactions and dissatisfaction in the current information context, which is understandable, but no high-ranking official has made such a statement. Nevertheless, I believe we should apologize to our fellow citizens and parents for such misinformation,” Alen Simonyan said.
The Vice Speaker also noted that neither Andranik Kocharyan nor Mane Gevorgyan have confirmed the news about the return of prisoners; this is misinformation. Referring to the situation, he stressed that the Azerbaijani side is trying to escalate the internal political situation in Armenia, noting that his colleagues are also taking advantage of the created situation.
“Azerbaijan is doing everything to deepen the discontent and negative atmosphere in Armenia. They want to influence the electoral processes, and I am sure various speculations are taking place. Through various media, my colleagues are trying to exploit these themes in every possible way,” the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly noted.
He also addressed Rustam Muradov's statement, highlighting that he is not involved in the process of returning prisoners and that his words do not make sense. “There is no logic in the context of Muradov’s work regarding the return and number of prisoners; neither does it exist now, nor can it be. Therefore, making references to this or that official or situation is not correct,” Alen Simonyan said.
