New Residential Neighborhoods Are Being Constructed in Stepanakert
A competition has been announced for the construction of a new residential neighborhood in Stepanakert. The Ministry of Urban Development of Artsakh has registered more than 7,000 applications regarding buildings and constructions damaged as a result of the war, over 4,500 of which are from Stepanakert. This was reported in an interview with Armenpress by the Minister of Urban Development of Artsakh, Aram Sargsyan, who added that construction works are currently ongoing in about 960 facilities.
“In more than 2,500 addresses, doors and windows have been replaced, while construction materials have been provided for the renovation of over 2,600 roofs,” Sargsyan detailed.
According to the minister, based on the seismic service's conclusion, of the 25 residential buildings fundamentally destroyed due to shelling in Stepanakert, 23 are beyond recovery. “New designs have been commissioned for their reconstruction, and construction works will begin after their completion,” the minister noted.
In the near future, construction works for new multi-apartment buildings are planned, while the ones currently being constructed will be handed over for use within the current year.
“A competition has already been announced for the construction of a new neighborhood with 204 apartments on Tigran Mets Street in Stepanakert. Buildings consisting of 60 apartments are in the design phase in the Ajapnyak neighborhood. Construction of buildings with a total of 261 apartments in various sections of Tumanyan Street in Stepanakert will be completed in September of this year,” said Sargsyan.
According to him, as a result of the reconstruction of old and abandoned residential buildings in settlements under the control of Artsakh, over 100 displaced families from Artsakh have been provided with housing. After the war, renovation works began in more than 360 unoccupied private houses in various settlements of Artsakh.
“A mandatory condition during the renovation is also the construction of sanitary facilities and kitchen areas in the private houses,” Sargsyan added.
According to the minister, a competition has already been announced for the construction of a total of approximately 300 apartments in 10 new multi-apartment buildings as part of the housing construction programs implemented in Artsakh in cooperation with the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund. “Specifically, the apartments planned in Stepanakert will be allocated to the families of fallen freedom fighters and to those displaced from the cities of Hadrut and Shushi,” the minister emphasized.
