Universal Vaccination Process in Georgia to Start in July: Approved Vaccines Announced

The Director of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health of Georgia, Amiran Gamkrelidze, has addressed the issue of universal vaccination in the country, stating that it is expected to commence, likely in July. This information was reported by aliq.ge.

According to Gamkrelidze, an active vaccination campaign will continue until then. Additionally, negotiations are ongoing with various manufacturers, and several types of vaccines will be available in Georgia by the end of the year.

“The day before yesterday, we started working on a contract for the importation of the 'Novavax' vaccine. This is an American vaccine, and its production method differs from that of AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Moderna. Alongside this, we are also negotiating with the Serum Institute of India, aside from the 'COVAX' platform, and we are currently discussing the procurement of around one million doses of 'Novavax'. Furthermore, we plan to acquire Pfizer directly from the manufacturer in the future, rather than through the 'COVAX' platform,” Gamkrelidze noted.

It is important to recall that the vaccination process in Georgia started in mid-March. Currently, healthcare workers and individuals aged 65 and older are being vaccinated.
