The Issue of Prisoners Requires Delicate and Calm Work: Tigran Avinyan
The Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Tigran Avinyan, addressed the issue of prisoners of war held in Azerbaijan during an interview on "Azatutyun" today, expressing confidence that Armenia will achieve results in obtaining their release.
"The Russian Federation unequivocally shares our position that all prisoners of war and detained individuals must return. Although the President of Azerbaijan has repeatedly made statements contradicting the content of the November 9 declaration, I believe that this requires very delicate and calm work from us, and patience is necessary. I am definitely convinced that we will achieve results. I also want to emphasize that international pressure on Azerbaijan in this regard is increasing and will continue to grow. Because this is a point where there is little room for misinterpretation or alternative interpretations. Regardless of what status Azerbaijan gives to those individuals being held—whether they are detained, civilian, or prisoners of war—all must be returned unconditionally," Avinyan stated.
During the broadcast, he mentioned that 70 individuals have been returned to Armenia to date. However, he did not disclose the current number of Armenian citizens in Azerbaijan, noting that the information is of a confidential nature.
