Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan Fail to Find Common Ground: What Was Discussed at Their Last Meeting

In the framework of the Homeland Salvation Movement, tensions are continuing to rise. Even Serzh Sargsyan and Robert Kocharyan have expressed opposing viewpoints. According to our information, during the last meeting of the HSM, Kocharyan stated that the elections should be pursued under any circumstances, while Sargsyan categorically rejected the idea of participating.

If Kocharyan argues that street protests should continue, Sargsyan insists that such efforts have been unproductive. There is also a general mistrust towards Vazgen Manukyan, and so the disagreements persist. We learned that during their last meeting, their differences became more apparent when Kocharyan insisted that they should go to the elections united, whereas Sargsyan mentioned that he does not find it appropriate to even consider elections at this moment.

This situation has led opposition leaders to meet separately, trying to clarify each other’s intentions. During these confidential meetings, Sargsyan has not provided any clear information; at times he announced that he would not participate, yet in recent days he explains that the party is being persuaded to engage in electoral battles, and no one can ascertain what his true intentions are.

Presently, among the opposition leaders, only Gagik Tsarukyan, the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, has informed that he intends to run alone without any coalition. Arthur Vanetsyan, the leader of the Homeland party, is still in a state of contemplation, only stating that he will participate in the elections. Meanwhile, it seems that the ARF and Robert Kocharyan have definitively decided to run together under the “Kocharyan” alliance.
