Fatal Accident: Mercedes Driver Strikes Pedestrian

On March 24, a fatal accident occurred in Yerevan. At around 14:00, a 46-year-old resident of Yerevan, K. Virabyan, driving a Mercedes E 200 with license plate 001 CG 01, struck 72-year-old S. Hovhannisyan, also a resident of Yerevan, near 48 Shiraz Street.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamsyan, the driver did not flee the scene, called for an ambulance, and subsequently assisted in transporting the injured pedestrian to Armenia Medical Center. This information was reported by shamshyan.com.

Officers from the 8th platoon of the first battalion of the Road Police, led by platoon commander Arshak Saiyan, arrived at the scene. The operational management center of the Yerevan Road Police received the incident report from duty officer Garik Hakobyan, who forwarded it to the division responsible for investigating road traffic accidents and the conduct of administrative proceedings. A responding team arrived, headed by division chief Grigor Avetisyan and senior investigator Ararat Tovmasyan.

According to the photojournalist's information, the driver underwent a sobriety test, which confirmed he was sober. However, at about 19:40, the Yerevan Road Police operational control center received a report from the hospital that the pedestrian had died without regaining consciousness.

Based on the investigation led by A. Tovmasyan, a criminal case has been initiated under the second part of Article 242 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, and the case has been referred to the Road Traffic Crimes Investigation Division of the Investigative Committee of Armenia in Yerevan.
