Today, the National Assembly of Artsakh elected Gegham Stepanyan to the high position of Human Rights Defender. I am pleased with this precise choice and congratulate us on the occasion of enriching the ranks of our high-ranking public servants with a smart, dedicated, and principled figure like Gegham. This was stated by the head of the Artsakh President's Office, Artak Beglaryan, on his Facebook page.

“When just days before the war, I appointed Gegham as the executive secretary of the Human Rights Defender's office, I was confident that I would not regret it, and our difficult joint journey during the wartime and post-war periods has reaffirmed my conviction. What we have experienced and accomplished at that time with our small team—alongside Arsen Sarajyan and Gurgen Nersisyan—only we will know… Therefore, I can confidently assert that Gegham will continue the further development of the Human Rights Defender institution, and he will have his own distinctive and no less significant contribution in this regard, alongside a professional staff who will honorably defend the rights of the people of Artsakh on both internal and external platforms.

Although many expressed regret after my resignation, it is time to say that Gegham is the person who will not only effectively continue the unfinished tasks but also can elevate the Human Rights Defender institution to higher levels.

Considering Gegham not only as a good colleague but also as a friend who shares the same values, I fully express my readiness to provide maximum support within my official and personal capacities to assist him in fulfilling his vital mission in defense of our people's rights and strengthening our statehood.
