Yura Movsisyan's Aunt Arrested in Gyumri
According to 168.am, Amalya Adamyan, the long-time head of the Employment State Agency in Shirak Province, was arrested yesterday.
Sources from 168.am report that Amalya Adamyan is the aunt of renowned football player Yura Movsisyan, who plays for the Armenian national team and resides in the United States. Her husband has been a coach for the Shirak football club for many years.
Alongside Amalya Adamyan, six other employees of the agency were arrested as part of an operation conducted by the National Security Service (NSS) and the police's 6th department.
The agency is widely known among the public as a center for unemployment, where registered individuals receive financial assistance in the form of benefits until they find work.
There are persistent rumors in Gyumri that Amalya Adamyan's arrest is closely linked to Karen Sarukhanyan, a member of the ruling My Step faction in the National Assembly. He allegedly aims to appoint his cousin, Armen Sarukhanyan, as the director of a newly formed structure resulting from optimization effective April 1, which will include the Employment State Agency.
Repeated discussions have emerged about Karen Sarukhanyan's activities in Shirak province, with claims that everyone in Gyumri knows he is the one who resolves personnel issues in the region. There are even rumors that the governor of Gyumri, Hovhannes Harutyunyan, is a protégé of Karen Sarukhanyan.
According to reports from Gyumri residents, Amalya Adamyan may also have been targeted for her opposition views or for resisting the relinquishment of her position.
Rumors in Gyumri suggest that Karen Sarukhanyan was behind the arrests of Ara Petrosyan, the director of the Arpi Lake National Park, and his deputy Gevorg Alekyan.
