More than 10 years of service without encountering danger: Wife of found contract soldier shares details

On March 21, Agapin, the wife of Karen Shahbazian, one of two contract soldiers who went missing and were found just hours ago, learned about her husband's disappearance from social media. The news of his location was communicated by his relatives, who had sought information on Shahbazian’s whereabouts during this time.

In an interview with "Haykakan Zhamanak," Agapin recounted, holding back her emotions, that she last spoke with her husband the previous morning, on March 21, around 7:40 AM. "He called, and we spoke briefly; he said he would call back when the weather improves, but he never did. He mentioned that there was a strong snowstorm and bad weather. He had moved from one post to another. After a long time passed without a call, I tried to reach him, but he was unreachable. I don’t even remember which website it was, but someone posted a child’s photo and wrote that he was missing, and that’s how I found out. Later, they mentioned my husband and his missing colleague, Aghasi Hovhannisyan, on TV; he is also from Aragatsavan, and we know him," said Agapin.

According to her, her husband and his fellow soldier were outside for about 34 hours and have also been reported to have suffered from hypothermia. "He has been serving for more than 10 years and has never faced any danger before. He saw two wars without any issues, and suddenly this happens," she said, combining relief and tears of joy.

37-year-old Karen Shahbazian had previously served in the Karvachar region, and after this area was transferred to Azerbaijan, he was moved to the army unit in Jermuk. Agapin does not expect to see her husband today, assuming he will be transferred to the hospital and they will notify her. She plans to visit tomorrow.
It is worth noting that Karen Shahbazian is the father of 10-year-old Armen, who saved his drowning friends in the Talin canal.
