41-Year-Old Woman Self-Immolated in Martuni, Leaving Behind Two Minor Children
In the town of Martuni in the Republic of Artsakh, a 41-year-old woman who self-immolated on March 20 had health problems and did not want to continue her treatment. Vadim Danielyan, the deputy mayor of Martuni, shared this information in an interview with NEWS.am.
"It was a normal family; there hadn't been any issues that would lead to such a decision. She did not have any mental health problems either. It was surprising. The theory is that she had some health issues, didn't want to continue treatment, and this caused distress for her family, leading her to take such a step," Danielyan explained.
He mentioned that the 41-year-old woman was married and had two minor sons.
The Prosecutor's Office of Artsakh also reported that a notification was submitted to the Martuni division of the Artsakh Republic Police on March 20, 2021, stating that the body of G.Q., a resident of a house at 1 May 9 Street in the same city, was found in a burnt state in the yard of the mentioned residence. Based on the report and preliminary checks, a note allegedly left by the victim was found at G.Q.'s home, and it was noted that a petrol-containing bottle was absent from the house, which was kept by her husband.
A criminal case has been initiated in the territorial investigative department under the 109th article, part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Artsakh, which is characterized by causing a person, through threats, cruel treatment, or systematic humiliation of personal dignity, to indirectly intend or unwittingly attempt suicide. Expert evaluations have been appointed, and a preliminary investigation is underway.
