Incident Occurs Between Armenians and Azerbaijanis; Artsakh Residents Block Road, Notable Details

Yesterday, at around 13:30, an incident occurred at the Sarushen-Karmir village road section in the Askeran region between Armenians and Azerbaijanis. During the passage of an Azerbaijani military convoy escorted by Russian peacekeepers, Azerbaijani soldiers threw stones at Armenian vehicles traveling on the same road, resulting in damage to the windshield of a VAZ 21-07 vehicle driven by Lentrush Babayan.

Following the incident, L. Babayan and another driver traveling on the same road blocked the interregional road, halted the convoy, and demanded explanations from the Russian peacekeepers as well as the responsible Azerbaijani officer. According to L. Babayan, the Azerbaijani officer, who could not communicate properly in Russian, took photographs of the vehicle and promised to report to his superiors. The Russian escorts apologized for the incident and stated that the damages would be compensated.

To clarify all details of the case, the victim was interrogated at the Askeran regional police department. Photographs of the vehicle, along with a translation of the explanation into Russian, have been forwarded by Minister of Internal Affairs Karen Sargsyan to General Muradov. The peacekeeping forces are already addressing this issue. According to the Russian side, the problem is not only compensation for damages but also the prevention of similar incidents in the future.
