Materials Being Prepared Following Child Beating Incident by Doctor at Norq Marash Medical Center

A Facebook user, Mane Rafaelian, reported on social media that her 4-year-old child was assaulted by pediatric cardiologist Karen Kurdov during an examination at the Norq Marash Medical Center.

Ayrmenpress requested clarifications from the relevant authorities and the medical center's administration regarding Rafaelian's post. In a conversation with us, spokeswoman Elena Simonyants stated that the child became uncontrollable during the examination, and the doctor attempted to restrain the child in order to fulfill his professional duty. "Unfortunately, all of this has received a specific interpretation. Writing such things about a physician of such a high caliber and interpreting them in this way, I do not think is correct. Of course, we condemn it and do not justify the incident, as such behavior is unacceptable even for the purpose of restraint," said Simonyants.

According to her, the director of the medical center is temporarily replaced by Deputy Director for Finance Hrayr Hakobyan, who has applied administrative sanctions against the doctor in question. Simonyants also mentioned that they are addressing the issue.

In response to media inquiries regarding the incident, Yerevan Mayor's spokesman Hakob Karapetyan stated that they condemn such behavior and consider it unacceptable. "On March 17, we received a report at the Central Police Department. Materials are being prepared at this moment," stated the Public Relations and Information Department of the RA Police.
