No Decision Yet on Amulsar Operation, Says Romanos Petrosyan
No decision has been made regarding the operation of Amulsar as of now. This was stated by Minister of Environment Romanos Petrosyan during a conversation with journalists after a government meeting.
“I will largely rely on the possible illegalities revealed by the criminal case, which will guide my future implementations of the necessary tools related to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or any other examinations. At this moment, until the criminal case is resolved, and the objective reality that we are all waiting for is not made public, I cannot comment. But I can assure you that if the facts uncovered in the criminal investigation by the Investigative Committee cast doubt on the EIA, on the permits granted for hazardous waste management, or put in question Lydian Armenia's water usage permits, then I will vigorously counter them within my authority. However, if no such objective reality emerges in a legal country, the Minister of Environment has no mandate to intervene in this process, because the operator currently holds all the necessary permits, licenses, and positive EIA conclusions that will allow them to operate,” said the minister.
