Azerbaijan Has Already Begun Renaming Streets in Shushi

Azerbaijan has already begun renaming the streets of Shushi. This was reported by Facebook user Argam Yeghiazaryan.

“A little anti-Armenian symbolism in Shushi... Azerbaijan has already initiated the renaming of streets in Shushi that it has taken control of. The first online map service to serve Azerbaijan is Yandex Map. Most of the streets on the map have been named in honor of those Azerbaijanis who are either originally from the city or have some connection to it.

Our street in Shushi was named after the founding father of Armenia, Aram Manukyan. But do you know whose name it bears now? Not Azerbaijan's, but rather that of Turkey's founding father, Atatürk.

By the way, my father, Arthur Yeghiazaryan, was the one who proposed naming that street after Aram Manukyan when, under the late Shahen Mkrtchyan's leadership, a group was created in 1993 to rename the streets of Shushi that had foreign names.

The Shushi school created in October 1992, led by my father and his friend Artashes Torosyan, also bore the name of Aram Manukyan,” he wrote.
