Onik Gasparyan Dismissed from Position: Prime Minister's Statement

In accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia and relevant provisions of the Law on Military Service and the Status of Military Servants, on February 25, 2021, the Prime Minister submitted a proposal to the President of the Republic to dismiss the Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces, Onik Gasparyan, from his position, attaching a draft decree.

On February 27, 2021, the objections of the President regarding the aforementioned draft were submitted to the Prime Minister's office. The Prime Minister did not accept the objections presented by the President, and a letter with relevant justifications was sent to the President on February 28, 2021.

Considering the fact that within the time limits stipulated in part 3 of Article 35.1 of the Law on Military Service and the Status of Military Servants, the President did not sign the draft submitted by the Prime Minister and did not appeal to the Constitutional Court, based on part 3 of Article 139 of the Constitution, as well as part 6 of Article 35.1 and part 3 of Article 40 of the same law, Onik Gasparyan, the Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces, is considered to have been dismissed from his position by law as of March 10, 2021.
