Turkey Continues to Build Walls and Install Surveillance Systems at Its Borders

Turkey continues its work on building walls, installing cameras and other detection systems, and placing observation towers along its borders, reports ermenihaber.am.

Currently, a 3-meter-high concrete block wall has been constructed along 837 km of the 911 km-long Turkey-Syria border. A road has also been built for patrol services along the entire length of the wall.

In the Igdir section of the Turkey-Iran border, a 54 km long wall and patrol road have already been completed, with cameras and detection systems installed. This year, the construction of the wall and road in the Agri area of the Iran border will be completed. Additionally, construction has begun on a 64 km long wall and road in the Van section of the Iran border.

With the support of the European Union, observation towers are being installed in various parts of Turkey's borders where physical presence of an observer is not required. These towers are currently being installed in the border areas of Edirne, Kirklareli, Kars, Igdir, Agri, Van, and Hakkari provinces. A total of 174 technically equipped towers have already been installed, with another 200 set to be installed in 2021.

At the same time, the work on equipping border areas with cameras and detection systems has been completed in the provinces of Şanlıurfa, Agri, Igdir, and Ardahan. Similar systems are also being installed and lighting work has begun at the borders with Greece and Bulgaria.
