What Is the Aim of the Foreign Minister's Demarche?
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ara Ayvazyan, has given an interview to the Al Arabiya news agency and, in particular, addressed the infamous statement from the Armenian Armed Forces General Staff, stating: 'I absolutely disagree with characterizing what happened in Armenia as an attempted coup... It was rather the political positioning of certain members of the General Staff... There are no elements of a military coup in Armenia.'
This statement was deemed sensational yesterday, as Ayvazyan is effectively opposing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who has repeatedly claimed that the military's statement demanding his resignation is an attempted coup. In reality, such a declaration from the Foreign Minister is not accidental.
According to information from the Fact newspaper, Ayvazyan has realized that he has found himself in a significant 'fire' after agreeing to work in Pashinyan's government following the signing of the capitulation agreement, and his demarche aims to achieve a resignation. He understands that, at this stage, those working in Pashinyan's government, especially those appointed after the defeat and the disgraceful signing of the agreement, will not be forgiven.
Essentially, Ayvazyan is trying to rid himself of the label of a collaborator and erase this shameful chapter from his life. Interestingly, we wrote just days ago that, most likely, the Foreign Minister would also be relieved of his duties. According to our sources, he has submitted his resignation request twice, but Pashinyan convinced him to stay to prevent the already critical situation from worsening.
