Aper Transferred to NSS Isolation: 'Hraparak'
Aram Vardanyan, known as Aper and regarded as a criminal authority, has been accused of several articles of the Criminal Code, including forgery of documents and kidnapping. He has been on the wanted list since March 2020. In July, he was discovered and detained. Although the criminal case had been under review for a long time and the court previously did not see a need for detention, it appears that the orders may have changed in the interim. However, Aper's relatives were confident that 'Nikol would not harm him as he had greatly supported him while in office.'
Nonetheless, after spending about six months in detention, on January 8, 2021, the court changed Aper's preventive measure, releasing him on 75 million drams bail. Subsequently, the prosecution appealed, and on February 22, the appellate court, presided over by Armen Danielyan, again sanctioned his detention.
Moreover, it was decided to ‘dethrone’ Aper and create conditions in prison that would 'break' him and force him to comply with the authorities. However, as in all matters, the government did not have sufficient power or authority, and Aper soon began to better understand the situation in the 'Armavir' penitentiary than its staff. They considered transferring him to the Nubarashen jail; however, upon realizing they could not resolve this matter, they refused to accept him. Consequently, he was compelled to be transferred to the NSS isolation unit.
Despite Vardanyan's charges, there is no basis for holding him in this detention facility. Currently, Aper is imprisoned in the NSS 'Yerevan-Center' facility.
