Travel Will Become More Comfortable: 27 New Carriages and 2 New Trains

The South Caucasian Railway Company has signed a contract with the Russian company Transmashholding, according to which new rolling stock for international and domestic passenger transportation will be acquired in 2021.

According to the report from the company, 27 passenger carriages will be supplied to Armenia, which will serve international passenger transportation between Armenia and Georgia. Of these, 16 will be compartment carriages, 5 will be sleeper carriages, and 6 will be open-plan.

Additionally, the holding will supply two EP2D dual-unit new electric trains to the company. Similar trains have been effectively operated in Armenia since 2017-2018.

The new passenger carriages are expected to arrive in May-June 2021, while the new electric trains will arrive by August 1.

The company reports that the new rolling stock is the latest serial production from Transmashholding. The carriages can be equipped with vending machines and coffee machines. They are equipped with toilet complexes with shower stalls and drinking water dispensers.

All seats in the passenger carriages will be equipped with electrical outlets and USB connectors. Television sets will be installed in the two-person compartments of model 61-4517 carriages. According to the wishes of the company, a special color gamma will be applied in the carriages.

The EP2D electric trains are equipped with passive safety systems, a special microclimate control system, air disinfection modules, and environmentally friendly toilet equipment.

The rolling stock supplied to Armenia meets all the comfort and safety requirements for passenger transportation established by the Customs Union technical regulations and can be operated in all countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia.
