In Our Country, Good Things Are Not Expected: Movses Hakobyan

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev delivered a speech at the summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) yesterday, inviting member states to "utilize the Zangezur corridor." Can Aliyev fulfill this desire? "Iravunk" sought to inquire about this from former Chief of the General Staff, Colonel General Movses Hakobyan.

The Prime Minister persistently does not retreat from the aim of dismantling the state and the army. Aliyev says and does what he wants, and does not face opposition. Moreover, as long as this government exists, whatever Aliyev wants will also be implemented, and who can stop him? One day, Aliyev may even wish to sit in the Prime Minister's chair of the Republic of Armenia, and these authorities will rush to fulfill that wish as well. Let’s not forget, the most important thing is that Azerbaijan has the ability, in addition to their desires. But what do we have? I don't know what we have; we might not even be remembered as a nation on the face of this world any day soon, this is how tragic our nation's situation is.

Mr. Hakobyan, why didn’t Onik Gasparyan go and arrest Pashinyan and the guilty parties on the spot after the announcement, if he essentially accuses them of treason?

Onik does not have such powers. However, authoritative legal experts state that he is legally endowed with such powers. Have I not been in that position? Are you confronting me now? The Chief of the General Staff does not have the authority to arrest the Prime Minister; these are illegal claims.

What can you say about the candidate for the new Chief of the General Staff, Artak Davtyan?

Appointing a new Chief of the General Staff generally indicates that the Prime Minister does not shy away from the aim of dismantling the state and army. He is going down any path to activate the process of dismantling the army. For him, this has become a sickness.

Will the military submit to the whims of the Prime Minister? Unfortunately, there are officers serving in our army who believe that by fulfilling their duties and not protesting, they are serving the state. But this is not that case, dear officers; today, the policy pursued by the state’s leader is disastrous.

Do you see Artak Davtyan's guilt in the outcome of this war?

Artak Davtyan's guilt lies in the army's preparedness before the war. He bears no guilt in the actual course of the war. Not only did he not properly prepare the army, but he also led it in the opposite direction. In summary, I will say the following: whatever Artak Davtyan has implemented regarding the army together with the Prime Minister, I have expressed in my words, and I believe their ultimate goal is the disintegration of the Armed Forces and the state. That’s all I can say. I must state, good things are not expected in our country if this pace continues.
