Greek Times Warns of New War Preparations by Azerbaijan and Turkey Against Armenia

Greek Times warns that Azerbaijan, together with Turkey, is preparing for a new war, this time against Armenia, with the aim of 'regaining historical Zangezur.' This was stated by Edmond Marukyan, a member of the National Assembly from the 'Enlightened Armenia' faction, on his Facebook page.

The article references Aliyev's speech during a recent economic conference, where he asserted that 'a new transport corridor must go through Azerbaijan's historical territory—Zangezur, which will serve as a link between Azerbaijan, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and Turkey.'

Greek Times presents several arguments to substantiate the news regarding the anticipated war, particularly citing the appearance of a Turkish Boeing 737AEW&C under the CENAH01 code at Armenia's air borders (the same code was used during the 2020 Artsakh War), as well as Turkey initiating military provocations in Donbass, Ukraine, and via Azerbaijan in Armenia, aimed at limiting Russian influence in these regions.

According to Greek Times, Azerbaijani authorities are conducting a mobilization of reservists, while Turkish-Azerbaijani forces are carrying out exercises near Armenia's borders. It should be noted that Greek Times had made similar forecasts on September 25, 2020, regarding the transfer of Syrian terrorists to Azerbaijan.

I addressed security issues in the Syunik region, their overcoming and/or neutralization last December. In this context, I emphasized the importance of initiating negotiations with Russia to deploy a Russian military base in Syunik as soon as possible. My proposal is especially relevant now, as various local and international sources report threats of a new war.

The establishment of a Russian military base cannot be viewed separately from Armenia's foreign policy agenda. It presumes a transition of Armenia-Russia allied-strategic relations into a qualitatively new phase, where mutual trust will be established as a fundamental principle. In the context of regional developments, the 'rehabilitation' of allied relations with the Russian Federation has no alternative.

We need to be realistic: considering the current humanitarian and military-political challenges, the Republic of Armenia cannot independently confront the threat of a new war. Therefore, we urgently need broad public consolidation to confront the existential challenges facing our country.

I urge all parties to urgently break free from this vicious cycle of 'hatred and enmity,' demonstrate prudence and wisdom, and make every possible effort to neutralize the threat of the anticipated war. Otherwise, according to the established 'tradition,' this time the labeling of black and white will endanger the existence of the Republic of Armenia,” he wrote.
