Which Roads in Armenia Will Undergo Safety Improvement Works?
As part of the road safety improvement program in Armenia, a series of measures will be carried out on several highways across the republic. Specifically, work will focus on ensuring safety at hazardous locations, improving infrastructure, installing road safety awareness advertising panels in certain areas, and developing auditing capacities related to road safety in several institutions involved in road design.
According to the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, safety improvement measures have commenced at 9 hazardous locations along the H-8 and M-5 roads, which connect Yerevan to Armavir and the Armenia-Turkey border. Contracts for construction work have been signed with the companies 'Arhovshin' and 'Ararat Chanshin'. The completion of the works is expected by September 2021.
Specifically, safety improvement efforts on the H-8 national road will address two hazardous points, including the renovation of the roundabout near the villages of Nor Kharberd and Marmarashen. The works will include changing the curbstones, marking lanes, and asphalting adjacent areas, among other tasks.
Additional safety improvement works will also take place on interstate roads M-2, M-4, M-6, M-11, and M-12. The planned works are expected to be completed throughout 2021.
The most hazardous points on these roads have been identified based on an analysis of accident statistics provided by the Road Police. Studies have been conducted with the involvement of international experts. Actions have also been determined, such as the installation of road signs, lane markings, asphalting, and more, aimed at enhancing traffic safety in these areas.
The road safety improvement program in Armenia is being funded by a grant from the European Investment Bank of up to €4.25 million. The program is implemented by the Road Department of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia.
