Allegations of Espionage Against UNICEF Representative in Armenia are Unfounded: Stefan Dujarric

The spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stefan Dujarric, has deemed the allegations against UNICEFs representative in Armenia, Marianne Clark-Hatting, regarding espionage for Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom as unfounded. According to ‘Armenpress’, Dujarric addressed the issue during a briefing with journalists.

“The allegations of espionage against her are unfounded, and I fully support her. I can tell you what my colleagues at UNICEF have conveyed to me: UNICEF and the government of Armenia have agreed that Marianne Clark-Hatting will complete her role as UNICEF representative in Armenia this month and will receive another appointment,” Dujarric stated.

He emphasized that Marianne Clark-Hatting is a highly qualified and experienced professional who has previously worked at UNICEF headquarters and held representative positions in Malaysia, as well as in Somalia, Guinea, Benin, and Madagascar.

“UNICEF has been operating in Armenia for children since 1993 and has had close and effective cooperation with the government,” Dujarric highlighted.

Recently, a decision was made in Armenia to terminate the activities of UNICEF representative Marianne Clark-Hatting. According to Anna Naghdalyan, spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while commenting on the government’s decision to terminate Clark-Hatting’s tenure at the request of ‘Armenpress’, stated: “For the Armenian side, it has been problematic that UNICEF representative Marianne Clark-Hatting has had shortcomings in her mandate implementation and a non-cooperative working style; therefore, the Armenian government has decided to terminate her role as UNICEF representative in the Republic of Armenia. The UN Resident Coordinator and UNICEF representatives have been informed about the decision.”
