Opposition Prepares to Camp Out on Baghramyan and Demirchyan Streets

Members of the "Homeland Salvation Movement" and citizens gathered on Baghramyan Avenue are preparing to camp out on Baghramyan and Demirchyan streets. This appeal was made to the citizens by the movement's coordinator, Ishkhan Saghatelyan.

He urged the participants to increase the number of tents and assured that conditions would be created soon for spending the night: "I will stay, my friends will stay, whether there are 10 of us or 1000 of us, we will remain. This is a very clear action within the framework of the law to express our disobedience," noted Ishkhan Saghatelyan.

Saghatelyan declared that surrounding the National Assembly is the citizens' natural right: "All state institutions that engage in anti-national, anti-state, and unconstitutional activities should be surrounded and their operations prohibited." Regarding the Chief of the General Staff, Onik Gasparyan, Saghatelyan stated that they do not expect the army to join them, but they hope that Onik Gasparyan will not comply with the illegal order and will remain in his position.

Saghatelyan also addressed the police, urging them not to go for provocations and to stand by the people and the army, then stated: "No member of this parliament should enter anymore. We have information that police officers are being brought to the city from all provinces, guys, do not obey illegal orders."

It should be noted that the members of the "Homeland Salvation Movement" have been keeping Baghramyan Avenue closed for 10 days, and today they have also blocked Demirchyan Street upon the call of the opposition's prime ministerial candidate, Vazgen Manukyan. The opposition took this step after it became clear that President Armen Sarkissian does not intend to appeal to the Constitutional Court and contest Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's order to dismiss Onik Gasparyan.
